Howard Stern and Shaman from Peru

Today on Howard Stern-- his partner on the show went to Peru and did ayuahuasca apparently without any previous training. Hey, people, if you're going to do this, OK, go to Peru, to the Amazon, not the Sacred Valley, and work with real shaman who know what they are doing, not a drug master catering to tourists. And do your homework first. As a shaman trained in the Inca path I think drugs generally are the lazy way, useful sometimes, but not without the training. Absolutely not the way to begin learning about shamanism.
Lots of drugs are available for supposed "trips" in the cities in Peru, suspect content of the ingredients alone make it risky without the right setting, it can be a dangerous way to go. I'm going to keep listening to the show and see what she has to say about her experience and her training.  Seeking out these experiences is great, but it's really important to do the work with the right training. Did Robin get the training needed? Sounds like she had a great experience, I hope so.Auyahuasca is not a tradition native to the high Andes, it is a jungle drug. the Q'ero shaman of the Sacred Valley don't use those drugs for meditation journeys. The Q'ero culture is endangered any time tour groups mix traditions in this way.
Any time we raise the awareness of the needs of the indigenous people, honor their traditions and learn from them, it's all good. I hope that her experience will allow her to speak up and talk about what these beautiful people need in their lives and how we can help them.   www.becominghummingbird.com
